Trainee Legal Executive Carla Cockton tells us about her Utilitywise career journey

What do you like about working at Utilitywise?

I like how no two days are the same. Our office is quite fast-paced and you’re never sure what is coming next. There’s always something different landing on my desk, which keeps it interesting.

What was your first role here at Utilitywise?

I was originally employed as a Sales Processor in the Administration department. I then became a Terminations Administrator, ensuring that every sale for all Energy Consultants was logged and submitted for termination where necessary. Whilst on the Terminations team, the Administration and the Finance department merged, and I joined the AQ Team.

What moment are you most proud of in your career with Utilitywise?

The moment I am most proud of is joining the Legal team and having the opportunity to enroll on a course with the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives. I am currently training to be a Legal Executive which will hopefully lead to becoming a Chartered Legal Executive Lawyer.

What did you do to get where you are today?

I studied Law at Sunderland University and then went on to do a Master’s Degree in Criminal Law and Procedure.

What would be your advice to other colleagues wanting to progress within the company?

Go for it! If you don’t try you will never know. Having left University eight years ago and having no real legal experience, I never dreamed that I would now be working in the Legal team working towards becoming qualified.
