The Role

We’re looking for an experienced Product Marketing Manager to join our Marketing department. The Product Marketing Manager leads the development of innovative, differentiated customer propositions and the execution of winning growth strategies for the part of the Utilitywise portfolio they will own.

The individual will use all of the marketing P’s to develop robust business plans and create propositions that inspire customers, the company, the market and crucially, beat the competition. They do this by having unparalleled insight into the market and customer needs, are able to identify commercial opportunities, and then turn them into compelling investment cases that are executed against with passion.

The ideal candidate must live and breathe the products in their category; they will become experts in their field, know their customers deeply and have a fundamental understanding of where the market is going. They will understand, love and will be truly passionate about the discipline of Product Marketing.

Responsibilities

  • Market intelligence: Develop rich, unparalleled market understanding through research, sales insight and competitive analysis;
  • Proposition Development: Bringing to life creative and innovative propositions and products (with Product Management and Development teams) managing from concept to launch and developing product positioning and messaging that differentiates your products in the market;
  • Go to Market Planning: Lead the creation and coordination of robust ‘Go to Market’ strategies including proposition, messaging, pricing, customer lifecycle/journeys, channel strategy and marketing plans;
  • Business Planning: Create robust and compelling growth strategies for your category, (including investment cases) and input into annual budget process, identifying clear commercial opportunities for Utilitywise to deliver greater customer numbers, stifle the completion, deliver improved customer experience and grow revenues by taking advantage of market dynamics identified above;
  • Become the category expert: What opportunities exist and will exist, how do customers buy and what are their buying criteria. Who are the competition and how do we beat them?;
  • Sales enablement – Communicate the value proposition of the products to the sales team and develop the sales tools that support the selling process of your products;
  • Own and manage the KPIs for products and propositions within a selected category, working with Sales and Marketing teams to make tactical interventions as and when required;
  • Table relevant information in clear concise ways that aid decision-making;
  • Work closely with Product management teams to inform the product/service development roadmap.

Qualifications/Training

Desirable

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Marketing.

Experience

Essential

  • 5+ years of product marketing experience, ideally with other related experience in sales, commercial or customer facing role;
  • Demonstrated consistent success in bringing creative, insight led propositions to life that have delivered successful financials outcomes/growth ;
  • Experience in creating robust, clear and articulate business plans and growth strategies, and able to secure support and investment for them at board level;
  • Evidence of excellence in identifying and seizing upon market opportunities through deep understanding and insight, and able to communicate ‘how’ that success was delivered through actions.

Desirable

  • Ideally a working knowledge of the utilities sector, including emerging technical developments;
  • Experience in writing and presenting a creative and project briefs.

Personal Qualities, Aptitudes, and Skills

  • Refined training, presentation and communication skills; can ‘translate’ effectively between Sales, Product Management, Development teams and CS;
  • Can work closely with Product management teams to inform the product/service development roadmap;
  • Comfortable numerically, and familiar with managing performance via KPIs, with the discipline to interrogate the data to identify trends, issues and successes from a range of sources;
  • Proficient in MS Office applications;
  • Ability to fight for best possible consumer experience at ALL levels;
  • Has a strong work ethic is resourceful, assertive and takes initiative;
  • Very strong written communication skills;
  • Excellent people and management skills to interact with staff, colleagues and cross-functional teams, and third parties;
  • Results-oriented, analytical, pragmatic, innovative, strategically-aware, commercially-minded self-starter.

Customers are based throughout the UK and in the Republic of Ireland, across a variety of industry sectors and the public sector, and range in size from small single site customers to large multi-site customers. In total Utilitywise has c.38,000 customers split across the two divisions; enterprise and corporate.

The Group has achieved strong revenue growth to date, seeing revenues rise from £11.7m in the financial year ended 31 July 2011 to £84.5m at financial year end July 2016. This is a result of strong like-for-like growth and the acquisitions of Clouds Environmental Consultancy, Aqua Veritas Consulting, Energy Information Centre and t-mac Technologies. Adjusted profit before tax rose from £16.7m in 2015 to £18.3m in 2016. Utilitywise has enjoyed in excess of 20% revenue growth year on year.

As the Group seeks to expand further, it has strengthened its already robust management team with the appointments of Brendan Flattery as CEO in October 2016 and more recently the appointment of Richard Laker as CFO in January 2017.
