An exciting opportunity has just become available for a Graduate/Junior Designer to join the dynamic team of creatives in our Marketing department.

Junior Graphic Designer

Location:  UK – Newcastle upon Tyne

The Role

Are you looking to kick start or further your design career? This could be the role for you. The role will predominately focus on graphic design for print and web purposes to support marketing teams in our Cobalt and Redditch offices.

Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to designing, proofing, alterations and artworking, of design projects. The role will also involve design support in the production of national event/exhibition material, such as banner-stands, e-shots/emails and the origination and updating of graphics on our social media channels and company website.

The successful candidate is expected to bring new ideas, enthusiasm, flair, creativity and an impressive work ethic. Candidates must be personable, with excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

Attention to detail is essential and some proof-reading experience would be beneficial. The successful candidate will also be expected to:

  • Liaise directly with the sales team, editorial and marketing departments;
  • Communicate with multiple clients and corporate establishments across the UK;
  • Work effectively from detailed flat-plans and follow company procedures at all times;
  • Adhere to tight deadlines and follow busy schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Working on a wide variety of projects, developing concepts, graphics and layouts across a range of print and digital media;
  • The ideal candidate will handle multiple projects from concept to completion with the ability to project manage and prioritise workflow;
  • Required to colour proof, retouch images and must have a sound knowledge of setting up artwork for print;
  • Offer design support to internal sales and marketing teams, alongside collaborating with photographers and copywriters;
  • Liaising with a network of external printers on a regular basis, ensuring deadlines are met and material is printed to the highest quality within budget;
  • Work with the wider marketing team to understand overall marketing objectives and how your work supports these;
  • Other design tasks as deemed necessary by the Senior Designer.

Qualifications & Training

Essential

  • A degree-level qualification in graphic design.

Desirable

  • Professional marketing qualification (e.g. CIM, IDM, Google Squared).

Experience

Essential

  • 1-2 years of experience in the creative industry;
  • Strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign);
  • Diverse portfolio which demonstrates proficiency in the artworking of brochures, banners, digital ad formats, emails, presentations, posters and other POS;
  • Excellent typography skills and eye for detail;
  • Experience in communicating and ‘selling’ ideas to managers and colleagues;
  • Able to demonstrate innovative ideas, which support business growth.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of HTML, JavaScript and CSS;
  • Animation/video skills;
  • Understanding of responsive digital design.
