Energy prices – if you snooze, you lose

Energy prices – if you snooze, you lose

With prices at a three month low, now’s a great time to make sure your energy bills are sorted.

Let’s face it – winter’s here. The woolly jumpers are out, it’s dark before you get to escape from work and Sharon two doors down has had her super annoying flashing lights in the garden for a good few weeks now. And, whilst it’s inevitable that Sharon’s energy bill will be extortionate – there’s no reason for your business energy bills to be the same.

So, energy prices, we know – boring. But, we couldn’t sleep at night if we didn’t give you an update.

Our experts have been working away, analysing the market to bring you the most up-to-date headlines on all things energy. They’ve found that now is a perfect time to switch to a fixed contract, as today’s prices are lower than they have been in the last 3 months*. But, with winter here, it’s a pretty safe bet that prices will rise, especially if last winter’s anything to go by.

Now, of course we know you won’t want to pay any more than you need to …who would?! According to Ofgem, the average energy bill for a small business is already £3,619**, seems high doesn’t it? Even a 20% price rise could pile almost £1000 on top – not ideal! Think of what you could spend that £1000 on – go on, we’ll let you daydream about new equipment in your business for a minute – we’ll still be here.

So, what can you do?

Don’t put as many Christmas decorations up as Sharon has for a start! But seriously, it’s as simple as fixing your business energy contract.

Fixed price contracts are great for small businesses wanting to avoid price rises. They let you lock in your prices for the lifetime of your contract at the unit rate you agree at the start. The prices can be fixed for up to five years and even if you’re not due to renew for another year, you can sort your next contract using today’s prices – you can’t say we don’t treat you.
