In their latest newsletter, the Environment Agency (EA) urged organisations affected by ESOS Phase 2 to start the process sooner rather than later. The EA state “there is no reason why you shouldn’t start doing the energy assessments now”. As a trusted ESOS provider to over 340 firms we welcome the government’s advice. Our expert ESOS compliance analysts and in-house Lead Assessors are ready and prepared to take organisations through their journey. We’re also keen to help prevent the last minute dash for audits experienced during Phase 1.
We’re also encouraging those organisations – believed to be up to 500 – who didn’t comply with Phase 1 and who haven’t still, to act immediately. 300 have already been served with Enforcement Notices by the EA. The EA also confirmed civil penalty proceedings have progressed with some non-compliant organisations too.
In addition, the EA’s newsletter gave insights into ESOS Phase 1 compliance and what issues it has found following a rigorous auditing process. The common remedial actions highlighted, such as errors in conversion factors and issues with Total Energy Consumption (TEC) data records, should be taken on board positively and used as a checklist to internally audit ESOS reporting before final submission in Phase 2.
Don’t delay – start Phase 2 compliance today
Based on this latest update our advice is clear:
- Start your ESOS Phase 2 early
- Don’t bury your head in the sand – fines and Enforcement Notices are real threats
- Use a trusted compliance partner to support your journey if you are not confident and don’t have the skills in-house
