MACH is the UK’s premier manufacturing technologies event. Held over an entire week at the NEC, 11-15 April 2016, it is an important gathering of UK industry at a pivotal time for the sector.
There are huge advances in technology within the manufacturing industry and the UK boasts some real world-leading producers. Our team visited the show this week and were amazed at the innovation and expertise on offer, from 3D printing and additive manufacturing to high-tech welding and software and design. The Bloodhound Supersonic Car was even on site, ahead of its 1,000 mph World Land Speed Record attempt due next year.
It was also fantastic to see so many Utilitywise clients exhibiting like Yamazaki Mazak UK Limited and Renishaw Plc. The halls were buzzing so we hope everyone who attended made the new connections they were after to guarantee future success and growth.
On Wednesday, we attended the session by Michael Mychajiuk from Jaguar Land Rover (JLR),who delivered an interactive and interesting take on the UK automotive industry and the future of JLR.
Clearly passionate about JLR, Michael highlighted how the automotive industry was transforming with growth for 2016 expected to be in the region of 8%. JLR is leading the way. In 2008/9 revenue was at £5.9bn but this has shot up since to £21.9bn in 2014/15. With 55% of JLR components sourced from the UK (above the industry average of 41%) they believe in supporting local firms that can match their ambition.
JLRs link up with the Team Sky cycling team to share best practice on ‘marginal gains’ and its partnership with Williams Advanced Engineering to enter Formula E this year highlights their ambition and vision.
It was good to hear the basis of their success is often down to the simple things – ongoing quality and adhering to processes. Simple things like behavioural changes and other low or no cost measures can save businesses 10% on their energy bills.
