If you were to leave a hot radiator outside your shop window, people would consider you pretty weird. What’s the point? It’s cold outside and you can’t warm things up. What a waste of energy!
An open shop door is a sure way to waste energy and drive up your costs. You’ll lose heat whenever the door is open, leaving you with a colder, less welcoming shop. What’s more, your staff will crank up the thermostat to compensate for the lost heat. With the door open, your heating system could be set at 24 degrees. Keep it closed and it could be set at 18 degrees instead. That’s a six degree difference in temperature, and probably a significant reduction of your energy spend.
If you want to let your customers know you’re open for business, invest in a door sign instead. It’ll be much cheaper than the gas bill you’ll get at the end of the year.
